The face the Royal Navy couldn't keep down.
Anne Bonny was born around 1700, likely in Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. By eighteen she was in Nassau. By twenty she was aboard Calico Jack's sloop, fighting alongside Mary Read. She was convicted, sentenced to hang, pleaded pregnancy, and disappeared from the historical record. Nobody knows how she died — or even if she did anytime soon. Some accounts have her living into her eighties in South Carolina under a different name.
