The wickedest city on earth, before the ocean took it back.

Port Royal, Jamaica was the pirate capital of the Caribbean from the 1660s through the 1690s — a place where privateers and pirates spent their plunder faster than they could steal it, where the bars outnumbered the churches, and where the English crown looked the other way because the pirates kept the Spanish at bay. On June 7, 1692, an earthquake dropped two-thirds of the city into Kingston Harbour. Two thousand people died in minutes. The survivors called it God's judgment. The pirates called it bad luck. Either way, the wickedest city on earth went under the water and never came back.
