Pirate articles — the contracts every crew signed before sailing — usually built in something close to this: equal shares of plunder, no officers' cut, the captain getting at most two shares to a sailor's one. Pirate crews voted captains in and could vote them out. They had injury compensation written into the articles. The historian Marcus Rediker calls it one of the most egalitarian distributions of resources in the entire eighteenth-century Atlantic. Wear it as a question.
